How it all began…

Darwin and Heidi Andrade have a deep love for nature and all that it offers. They began their journey on a beautiful piece of property in Grays Harbor, surrounded by towering Western Red Cedars, Douglas Fir trees, and abundant wildlife. At the heart of the property was a large pond that was refreshed daily by a cascading waterfall fed by a year-round creek at the back of the land. It was nothing short of magical. Summers were filled with children climbing trees and swimming in the pond, while winters brought shimmering ice, creating a true paradise.

In 2016, they decided to sell the property and move to the city of Olympia in order to reduce their commute times and spend more time with their new baby. Both of them came from urban backgrounds—Heidi from the greater Seattle area and Darwin from the bustling city of Pasto in southern Colombia—so they were familiar with city life.

The small, postage-stamp-sized property they now called home lacked the connection to nature that years of living amidst the sounds of birds and the tranquility of the outdoors had nurtured in their daily lives. They found themselves trading the serenity of nature for the noise of sirens, constant traffic, and close neighbors.

After a couple of years, they started envisioning what their small city lot could become. Darwin was working in landscaping and had acquired extensive knowledge of landscape installation. Heidi was a director for a state entity, and in her spare time, she began drawing from her educational background in native plant habitats to reimagine their outdoor space. Darwin would often find her standing in the yard with a faraway look in her eye and would ask, “What are you dreaming up now?”

From several ideas that Heidi sketched, Darwin began transforming their yard. Little by little, the plain lot evolved into a welcoming and peaceful oasis, complete with a babbling water feature, ponds with tranquil fish, and natural stone pathways. These pathways lead to flagstone patios surrounded by lush plants that extend their living space for 7-8 months of the year and dampen the bustle of the city with the sounds of birds.

In 2024, Darwin and Heidi made the exciting decision to combine their skills and passions to form Solvida Irrigation and Landscape, LLC. Darwin brings over ten years professional knowledge of plants for PNW landscapes and over eight years of expert experience in irrigation and landscape installation, while Heidi contributes her strong administrative and business acumen, drawing on her previous experience as a business owner of a massage therapy practice and a state administrator. Their top priority is delivering exceptional customer care! With a deep passion for capturing the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, Heidi and Darwin are dedicated to helping you bring your ideas and dreams for your outdoor spaces to life!
